3x4 Genetics had a world-class product and genuine scientific expertise. What they didn't have was an organic search presence that matched it. Here's how that gap closed.

The Context

World-class science. Near-zero organic visibility.

3x4 Genetics offers personalised genetic testing to help people understand how their DNA influences their nutrition, metabolism, and overall health. The science is genuinely sophisticated, built on real research, with trained practitioners guiding clients through their results.

But online, they were invisible. A niche, high-intent audience was searching for exactly what 3x4 offered: personalised nutrition, genetic testing, sulforaphane, how genes affect metabolism, and finding nothing from them. The organic channel was barely functioning.

The product was world-class. The organic infrastructure wasn't built to match it.
The Problem

Technical gaps, content gaps, and no internal linking strategy.

A site audit surfaced several compounding issues. The XML sitemap was broken. There were 404 errors on indexed pages. Yoast SEO hadn't been configured correctly. Meta descriptions were missing across key pages. These aren't glamorous problems, but they were actively preventing Google from crawling and indexing the site properly.

Beyond the technical issues, the content wasn't working hard enough. Existing blog articles weren't optimised for the queries they were already ranking for. There was no internal linking connecting the site's pages together. People were landing on articles and leaving, high bounce rates, no clear path deeper into the site.

The audience was there. The content existed. It just wasn't connected, optimised, or technically sound enough to perform.

The Strategy

Fix the foundation first. Then build on it.

The approach was deliberately sequenced. Technical issues first, since nothing else matters if Google can't crawl the site properly. Then internal linking to reduce bounce rates and pass authority between pages. Then content: optimising what existed and creating new articles targeting the specific questions 3x4's audience was actually asking.

Content topics were sourced from Search Console data, queries with high impressions but low click-through rates, and People Also Ask questions relevant to genetic testing, nutrition, and health. No guesswork, real signals from real search behaviour.

The Work

What was done, and when.

Technical foundation
Fixed the XML sitemap, resolved 404 errors, configured Yoast SEO, added missing meta descriptions, fixed ecommerce tracking, added GA tracking. Crawl and indexation issues cleared before any content work began.
Internal linking
Added internal links to pages with high drop-off and high bounce rates. Connected blog content to relevant product and service pages, creating paths through the site that kept visitors engaged and distributed authority.
Content optimisation
Optimised 10 existing blog articles that had dropped in traffic. Used Search Console data to identify queries with high impressions and low CTR, and worked People Also Ask questions into articles.
New content · Aug
Blog articles targeting sulforaphane, an emerging health ingredient with rising search interest, sourced directly from audience search intent.
New content · Sep
Articles targeting nutrition and genetics: how genes influence food choices, why fats are essential for health, and how genes affect metabolism.
New content · Oct
Bottom-funnel content for people actively considering genetic testing, reasons to test your genes and personalise your nutrition.
Site structure
Created and grouped new blog categories to improve topical structure and help Google understand the site's content clusters.
The Results

677% organic user growth, year over year.

Organic users grew from 296 to 2,300, a 677% increase. Sessions grew 652%, from 449 to 3,377. New users up 646%. Bounce rate dropped 44.8%, from 39.87% down to 22.00%, visitors were finding what they needed and staying on the site.

This wasn't paid traffic. It wasn't a product change. It was fixing the foundation, connecting the content, and making sure the right people could find a product they were already looking for.

The audience was already searching. The site just wasn't showing up.
